Founded in 1956 as Realite and later Soundesign, SDI Technologies is proudly American owned and operated. Under the iHome and Timex brands, it designs, manufactures, and markets a broad range of consumer electronics that set new standards for quality and innovation in various categories. SDI's key product lines include alarm clocks, portable speakers, Bluetooth vanity mirrors, sleep therapy machines, and smartphone/tablet accessories.

SDI's affiliate, KIDdesigns / eKids, manufactures and markets a broad range of electronic toys and youth electronics under several national brands. Its products feature innovative technologies and interactive applications for role-playing, learning, and entertainment for boys and girls of all ages.

SDI designs and develops all of its products, packaging, and displays in-house. SDI's products can be found worldwide through virtually every distribution network in countries all over the world.

1956

Realtone Electronics is founded to market pocket transistor radios and Realite cigarette lighters.
1961

Realtone Electronics goes public on the American Stock Exchange under symbol RTE.
1963

Realtone launches the Soundesign brand to market more upscale audio products including clock radios, portable radios, and stereo systems.
1968

Realtone changes its name to Soundesign and its stock symbol becomes SON.
1973

Soundesign launches the world's first stereo rack system.
1982

Soundesign becomes a privately held company again.
1983

Soundesign introduces the world's first telephone clock radio.
1989

Soundesign launches its KIDdesigns division with Playskool youth electronics.
1993

KIDdesigns signs the Barbie license for youth electronics and electronic toys.

Soundesign signs the Timex and Zenith licenses for audio products.
1994

Soundesign changes its company name to SDI Technologies and moves into its new corporate office in Rahway, NJ.
1997

SDI introduces the world's first nature sounds alarm clocks and clock radios.
2005

SDI launches its iHome brand to market iPod electronics with the world's first iPod clock radio.

SDI launches its Hotel Technologies division to market its clock radios to the hospitality trade.
2006

iHome expands its product lines to include portable speakers and home audio systems and launches a comprehensive advertising campaign on TV, in print, online, and through PR.
2008

KIDdesigns signs a license with Hasbro for Transformers, GI Joe, Littlest Pet Shop, and My Little Pony electronic toys.

SDI launches its iHome Licensing Division and over the years expands its brand into computer, iPhone, and iPad accessories.
2010

SDI introduces its headphone division with a broad line of earbuds, earhooks, headsets, and headphones.

KIDdesigns signs a license with Disney for youth electronics.
2012

SDI re-introduces it Realtone and Soundesign brands with retro clock radios and headphones.
2013

KIDdesigns signs a license with Marvel for youth electronics under the Hulk, Iron Man, and Captain America properties.
2014

KIDdesigns signs license agreements with Star Wars and Nickelodeon for youth electronics.
2015

SDI introduces the world’s first vanity mirrors with speakers.
2017

SDI introduces the world’s first Amazon Alexa Clock Radio with its iAVS16.
2018

SDI introduces the world’s first wireless charging clock radio (iBN350).
2020

SDI introduces the world’s first UVC sanitizing clock radio (iUVBT1).
